Jim Arnold, Starter

Jim Arnold is the muscular fellow shown in this photo. He is another of our great starters at the Oaks North Golf Course. I took him totally by surprise when I whipped out my camera and focused it on him. He was in a happy state of mind. It may be because he is contemplating some vacation time in Las Vegas - just for golfing, of course. (click on photo to enlarge)

Hugh Dean is 2006 Oaks North Men's Golf Club Champion!

Hugh Dean, our 2006 Oaks North Men’s Golf Club Champion, graduated from Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y., with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked in New York, New Jersey, Detroit, and Milwaukee as a Manufacturer's Representative for companies making industrial boilers. In 1964, he moved to Glendale, California, and started his own company. Hugh has 3 children (2 sons and a daughter), and 6 grandchildren.

Ben Reiges, Don Sandison, and I were fortunate to play with Hugh in the final round. He taught us alot. At the age of 81, he was out-hitting everyone in our foursome. There was no weakness in his game, and he deserved to be Champion. He is shown in the photo (blue shirt) finishing off an apple while being congratulated by Steve Tighe (green shirt), who took fourth place in Flight A. (click on photo to enlarge)

Dan Mahoney, Starter

We all know Dan Mahoney, Starter. He is the tall, lanky fellow with the ready smile who helps a bunch of grumpy old men get their acts together and tee off early in the morning. In fact, he is nice to people of all ages who like to play golf at the Oaks North Golf Course. According to those who have had the good fortune to play with Danny, he is a very talented golfer. He has made holes-in-one on East course #1 (260 yards) and East course #5 (282 yards) (click on the photo to enlarge)

Sylvan Grunwald Still Going Strong!

Sylvan Grunwald has the smoothest left-handed swing you will ever see! This seasoned golfer (age 91) is a good putter, and rarely hits into trouble. He knows every blade of grass on the course. (click on photo to enlarge)
