Tom Reid, winner of the 2007 Oaks North Men's Golf Club Championship Tournament!

Members of the Oaks North Men's Golf Club (the Tuesday Club) staged their 2007 Annual Club Championship Tournament on April 24, May 1, and May 8, 2007. After 3 hard-fought rounds of golf on the North and East courses, Tom Reid was crowned Club Champion. Tom is a very interesting man, and he seems to enjoy life to the fullest. I was fortunate to play with Jim O'Mahoney and Tom two days after Tom was declared Champion, and took the attached photo (click to enlarge) on the tee box of the 8th hole on the South Course. If you wonder why Tom looks so happy, read the entry posted below. It was a joyous occasion.

Tom Reid, Oaks North Men's Golf Club Champion, follows up with Hole-in-One!

As previously noted, Tom Reid won the 2007 Oaks North Men's Golf Club Championship on May 8, 2007. Not one to rest on his laurels, Tom followed two days later with a Hole-in-One on the 160 yard 3rd hole of the South Course! It was the third ace of his golfing career, and Jim O'Mahoney and I were playing with him. Upon announcing this feat back at the clubhouse someone (Mike Szoka, I think it was) magically produced and presented Tom with a gigantic trophy. Jim Arnold took this photo showing (left to right) Jim O'Mahoney, Tom Reid, the Trophy, and John Ellis. (click on photo to enlarge)

President Dean Cooksy holds forth at Oaks North Men's Golf Club Annual Meeting (May 8, 2007)

This photo shows Dean Cooksy, President of the Oaks North Men's Golf Club, holding forth at the Annual Meeting which took place at the Panda Buffet Restaurant in the Von's Shopping Center. Dean is a true gentleman, and I hope he will forgive me if I speculate that the colorful shirt he was wearing was painted for the occasion by his accomplished artistic wife. Jay Riesenberg, Club Treasurer, and Dean Cooksy, Club President, give report to members

Jay Riesenberg (wearing white cap), ON Men's Golf Club Treasurer, and Club President Dean Cooksy give their annual report to the members. Jay is an active real estate professional who plays to a low handicap. You can see what a handsome fellow he is in his business attire by looking inside the back cover of the Handbook/Roster for 2007-2008. (click on photo to enlarge)

Gordon Meske receives prize!

Right-handed Gordon Meske (left foreground, back to camera), who gave up the law for a career in golf, was a big winner in the prize department. After rejecting a left- hand wedge he was initially presented with, Gordon was more receptive to taking delivery of a golf bag filled with right-hand clubs! This may well be a bonanza for Gordon, a good golfer who usually carries a small bag with very few clubs. Standing in the background are Ray LaChance and Augie Ong. The man wearing the white cap is Jay Riesenberg, Club Treasurer, who may be hoping funds are available to cover this extravagance and a furtive trip to Las Vegas. (click on photo to enlarge)

Casting of votes at annual meeting of ON Men's Golf Club (May 8, 2007)

John Ellis and Barrie Smith (friendly competitors)

Barrie Smith (right), a native of England, and I were in good spirits before teeing off for the final round of the Oaks North Men's Golf Club Annual Club Championship. My smiles, however, faded into frowns as the round progressed and I missed putt after putt on my way to a dismal score. (click on photo to enlarge)

Charles Andrew and Dick McManus, winner of Flight B

Left to right are Charles Andrew and Dick McManus preparing to tee off on the 4th hole of the North Course at 7:30 AM on May 8, 2007, for the final round of the Oaks North Men's Club Championship. The conditions were perfect that early in the morning; however, the temperature climbed to about 90 degrees by the end of the round. Dick McManus, a retired lawyer, was hot as a firecracker. He finished first in Flight B, playing with irons and putter only - no woods. (click on photo to enlarge).

John Mulryan, Master of the Texas Wedge

John Mulryan is a jolly Irishman who knows how to use his putter effectively as a "Texas Wedge" from far off the greens. Furthermore, he can knock the heck out of his drives. He is always fun to play with. (click on photo to enlarge)

Bill Olds and George Hunter

Bill Olds and George Hunter (left to right) are members of both the Tuesday and Thursday clubs, and known for their golfing skills and good sportsmanship. (click on photo to enlarge)

The Golfer

"Behold the golfer. He riseth early in the morning and disturbeth the whole household. He goeth forth full of hope and when the day is spent he returneth smelling of strong drink, and the truth is not in him."
